Beginning as the Odesa School of Flour Milling, Odesa National University of Technology is one of Ukraine's oldest technological universities, founded in 1902. It has evolved through several institutional stages, becoming the Institute of Grain and Flour Technology in 1929, the Institute of Flour Milling Industry Engineers and Elevator Economy in 1939, and the Odesa Technological Institute of Food Industry in 1970, before adopting its current name in 2021 to reflect its expanded academic scope. Today, the university operates under the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

Located in the Black Sea port city of Odesa, the university benefits from its position in one of Ukraine's main hubs for maritime trade and food production.Ìý

The campus has nine academic buildings, eight student residences, a scientific and technical library, and the University History Museum.Ìý

The integration of the former Odesa State Academy of Refrigeration in 2012 further broadened the university's academic profile, strengthening provision in refrigeration, cryogenic technologies, and energy engineering.

Academically, ONTU is home to around 15 institutes and faculties, with more than 60 departments offering over 100 educational programmes. Undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes are available across disciplines including food technologies, grain processing, biotechnology, refrigeration and cryogenic engineering, thermal power engineering, automation, information technology, chemical engineering, hotel and restaurant management, tourism, marketing, economics, and management.

Research activity at the university focuses on food science and technology, energy systems, thermal physics, renewable energy, information technology, and industrial automation. This work is supported by specialist research facilities and a portfolio of long-established scientific journals, including Food Science and Technology, and Refrigeration Engineering and Technology.
