University of Phuong Dong was established in 1994 as one of the first non-public universities in Vietnam following the government's policy of socialising higher education. Initially operating with four faculties, the university has since expanded to offer over 35 fields of study and has produced more than 50,000 graduates.
The university operates across two campuses in Hanoi, with its main campus located on Trung Kính Street in Cầu Giấy District and a second campus on Minh Khai Street in Hai Bà Trưng District.
There are six faculties: Digital Technology and Communication, Technology and Engineering, Architecture and Construction, Economics and Business Administration, Foreign Languages, and Korean Language and Culture.
UPD maintains partnerships with more than 100 international universities and industry organisations to support student exchanges, internships, and collaborative projects. These include formal partnerships with institutions in countries such as China and Australia, together with overseas exchange pathways.
In 2025, the university officially transitioned to a private university model, marking a new phase in its institutional development after more than three decades of growth.
